EN223 - Environmental Storytelling: Activism

Environmental activism often bears risks. The risks become more severe depending on where on the globe environmentalists are working or how loudly they tell the story of environmental destruction or their own conservation work. Stories have given voice to the voiceless throughout history, and environmental activism gives voice to one who is too often and too easily silenced: nature. Students in this course will study environmental activism through the stories told by environmentalists and those willing to keep the stories alive when activist voices are silenced. During this study, students will recognize, discuss, and compare the ethical perspectives brought by the storytellers, including the acceptance of responsibility and risk.
