Provisional Admissions

Provisional Acceptance Policy for the Day Program

Provisional admission is designed for students who show promise of success in a collegiate environment but need further academic development. Provisional admission for students wishing to enroll in the Limestone University’s Day program is determined by the Director of Undergraduate Admissions, the Dean of Student Success, and four faculty members (one from each Academic College).  The Day Program awards provisional admissions to freshman students who have a high school GPA below 2.0 or transfer students who do not have a minimum 2.0 GPA from the last accredited college attended. These students may apply to the Limestone FLEUR Program. This program is designed for students who do not meet the GPA minimum requirement of 2.0. It allows Limestone to assist with their transition and provide resources to ensure their academic success. The FLEUR Program is designed to ensure success for new students. Students who apply to the FLEUR Program must complete the following requirements.

  1. Provide a letter of reference from an academic mentor (teacher, school counselor, or administrator at your school).
  2. Compose a one-page essay about why you think you will succeed academically at Limestone University.

Once these items are complete, the Acceptance Committee will review the student’s application and make a final decision. If accepted, the student will sign a contract with stipulations to secure their place in the FLEUR Program.

Provisional Acceptance Policy for the Online Program

Provisional admission is designed for students who show promise of success in a collegiate environment but need further academic development. Provisional admission for students wishing to enroll in Limestone University’s Online Program is determined by the Associate Vice President for Online and Graduate Programs and four faculty members (one from each Academic College). The Online Program awards provisional admissions to freshman students with a high school GPA below 2.0 or transfer students who do not have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA from all accredited colleges attended. Students provisionally accepted into the Online Program must submit a personal statement explaining their past academic performance and their plan for success in online classes at Limestone University. This letter must be emailed to online@limestone.edu and will be evaluated by the Associate Vice President for Online and Graduate Programs and four faculty members. The letter must be submitted before acceptance.

Provisionally accepted students must meet virtually with their advisor before enrolling in classes to discuss their academic success plan. They may enroll in up to a maximum of 12 credit hours per semester. If the provisionally admitted student successfully completes 12 credit hours, as determined by the Provost, regular admission will be recommended. If the student’s academic performance is unsatisfactory, the provisional status may be continued, or suspension from the University may result.
